Book review: For the Love of Diamonds

Only Natural Diamonds’ trend forecaster Archana Thani on why the book feels so “pertinent” at this moment in time

By Amy Wakeham

Only Natural Diamonds, the global non-profit organisation that promotes the natural diamond industry, has reviewed Rachael Taylor’s book For the Love of Diamonds: The Fine Jewelry Book

Archana Thani, trend forecaster and project consultant for the Natural Diamond Council India and UAE, notes that the coffee table book, published by teNeues, is “so timely”.

“The book arrives at a cultural moment when questions around natural diamonds – their extraordinary origins, their emotional resonance, and their enduring value – have never felt more pertinent,” she continues.

In For the Love of Diamonds, Taylor draws upon her experience as a jewellery journalist and editor to guide the reader on a compelling journey through diamond history, culture and lore. As well as offering glimpses into legendary jewellery ateliers, explorations of iconic designs, and explanations of cuts and settings, the book features rich photography and archival imagery to pore over. There’s also discussions around the evolving ethical and sustainable concerns that touch the international diamond trade.

Thani goes on to describe the book as “a love letter — to craftsmanship, to natural beauty, and to the remarkable stones that have captivated human imagination across centuries and cultures.”
